I've been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at The MMA Academy Liverpool since August 2018.
I was awarded my blue belt by head coach Jason Tan in March 2020 and my purple belt in May 2024.
I've competed and medalled at various competitions both locally and nationally.
I have been an assistant coach for the last 4 years helping with our kids programme as well as assisting with our adult beginner foundation classes. For the last 12 months I have been coaching foundation classes and kids classes when needed.
I started BJJ as a way to get fit and break the monotony of other fitness activities and wanted to push myself both physically and mentally. I never joined the gym with a view to compete or to take on coaching responsibilities but the more I trained, the more I wanted to know and then help out and pass on that knowledge.
Coaching kids in particular has provided me with a lot of satisfaction, being able to see their progress, developing and maturing both on and off the mats, and taking those skills that they've learned to competitions and performing to a high standard.
I believe BJJ is perfect for anyone from any background or walk of life and any level of fitness. Whether it's a 5 year old kid starting out on their sports journey or a 50 year old looking for a new challenge, BJJ has something for everyone.
